La Liga Preview: Barcelona v Real Madrid

Barcelona will aim to beat arch-rivals Real Madrid in La Liga for the first time in almost two years in Saturday s much-anticipated El Clasico.

The Catalan giants last won a league fixture against Real Madrid in December 2011, as they came from behind to win 3-1 in the Spanish capital.

And although Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup wins have since followed, Barca will be determined to end a run that has seen them take just one point from their last three league meetings with Real.

Gerardo Martino s table-toppers are the only side to avoid defeat in La Liga this term, having recorded eight wins and one draw.

They were held to a goalless stalemate at Levante last week but will hope a return to the Camp Nou where they have won their last 19 Liga matches helps them…

This venture for Barcelona has apparently taken up to three months, which is when they first signalled to Chelsea that they want to try and make a deal happen.

Pearson endorses Warnock for Wednesday vacancy

Former Sheffield Wednesday striker John Pearson believes Neil Warnock would be a suitable candidate to replace Dave Jones at Hillsborough.

The Championship outfit parted company with former Cardiff City and Wolves manager Jones on Sunday, with the club languishing in 23rd position with just 11 points taken from 16 matches this season.

Warnock has emerged as a controversial contender to take the reins at the South Yorkshire outfit, with the 65-year-old having managed city rivals Sheffield United between 1999 and 2007, guiding the club to the Premier League in 2006.

While his appointment could potentially divide opinion among supporters, Pearson who enjoyed a five-year spell as a player at Wednesday in the 1980s believes the former Leeds United boss experience of the Cha…

Nuno says Forest’s battle against Bristol City was ‘worth it’ for FA Cup progess

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo said his side’s night of toil in their FA Cup replay against Bristol City was worth it after they booked a fifth-round tie with Manchester United.

Forest needed a penalty shootout to get past the Championship outfit after it ended 1-1 after 120 minutes at the City Ground.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner was the hero as he saved Sam Bell’s effort in the shootout after Divock Origi’s first goal for Forest had been cancelled out by Jason Knight’s leveller.

“We are so happy it was tough but it was worth it,” the Portuguese said. “We had players struggling, extra time, let’s assess them now and see how they are.
